Former cantonal archaeologist and honorary professor of the University of Geneva, Charles Bonnet is part of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres in Paris.

He served on several scientific boards in Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium, and Spain. Named an expert for early Christian and medieval periods, he directed and supervised numerous archaeological sites in these countries as well as Egypt. It is on African soil, in Sudan, his archaeologist career began more than 50 years ago, first at the site of Tabo and those of Kerma and Doukki Gel.
